Myer Returns Australia: Online Refunds, Exchanges and Receipts

Myer Australia generally allows eligible change-of-mind refunds or exchanges within 30 days of purchase, provided the item meets its condition requirements, you can show an accepted proof of purchase and the category is not excluded. The channel matters: Myer says exchanges are offered for eligible in-store purchases, whereas eligible online orders use a refund route rather than an exchange. Clearance and reduced-to-clear items are excluded from ordinary change-of-mind returns. A faulty or incorrectly supplied product requires a different assessment from a simply unwanted item. Check Myer’s official returns policy before packing or posting an item.

Online and in-store purchases have different exchange options

If you bought an item in a Myer store and want a different size or colour, Myer says that an eligible change-of-mind purchase may be exchanged at a store. Bring the item and acceptable proof of purchase, and ask the returns team to check availability of your preferred replacement. If the alternative is out of stock, ask what refund option is available under the specific policy. An exchange should not be promised for an excluded clearance or used item.

For online purchases, Myer states that eligible change-of-mind orders are refunded rather than exchanged. If you need a different size, you may have to place a separate order after or while returning the original purchase. Prices and promotional discounts may change between transactions, and a replacement order is not automatically reserved by lodging the return. Choose a new order deliberately, especially if an event or delivery deadline is involved.

The 30-day window and the seasonal extension

Myer’s usual voluntary change-of-mind period is 30 days from purchase. Its official policy also provides a seasonal extension for purchases made in November and December, with eligible returns accepted until the end of January. Use the transaction date on the appropriate proof of purchase and check that the particular product is eligible; the seasonal extension does not remove product-category exclusions.

Keep the item unworn or unused, in saleable condition, with tags attached and original seals unbroken where applicable. A sealed gift can cease to qualify if it is opened and used before the recipient decides to return it. Myer’s team assesses items against its policy, so “I returned it inside 30 days” is not by itself enough when the product condition, purchase proof or item category does not qualify.

Proof of purchase: a confirmation email may not be enough

Myer explicitly lists the original register receipt or tax invoice, including an electronic copy or photograph, the online tax invoice, an online-order or Click & Collect packing slip, an original return or exchange receipt, a gift receipt and the MYER one app among acceptable purchase documents. The policy says a mere online order-confirmation email is not accepted as a substitute for the online tax invoice when making a change-of-mind return. Retrieve the correct tax invoice rather than presenting only the email acknowledging that you placed an order.

For a gift receipt, Myer says that an eligible return is refunded to a Myer Returns Card based on the original purchase value. A recipient cannot assume that the money will go to their own debit card simply because the item is unworn. If you lost your tax invoice, check the app and the packaging documents before a store visit. A faulty-product claim may involve other reasonable proof of purchase; ACCC’s proof-of-purchase guidance explains the general distinction.

Exclusions that are easy to overlook

Under the full Myer returns policy, change-of-mind returns exclude clearance or reduced-to-clear merchandise and categories such as customised or altered goods, certain Big & Bulky furniture or mattresses, pierced jewellery, hosiery, bedding accessories, some personal-care products, perishable goods, gift cards and certain service plans. Products labelled as having no change-of-mind return also require particular care before purchase. Always inspect the actual product description because the policy applies by category and condition, not merely by department name.

The exclusion for clearance is especially important when a product is marked down: a regular promotion and a product marked clearance are not necessarily the same thing under the retailer’s policy. A faulty clearance product is still a different question from buyer’s remorse. If you received a damaged item or an item that does not match its description, explain the actual problem and use the consumer-guarantee route rather than assuming a clearance label ends all options.

How to return a Myer online order

Myer explains that many eligible online purchases can be returned to a Myer store with the relevant proof of purchase, unless the item is classified as Big & Bulky. It also provides postal return choices through Australia Post or ParcelPoint. Start with Myer’s returns and exchanges instructions to select the route suited to your order; follow the return label and packaging instructions shown there instead of mailing the item to a guessed warehouse address.

If you choose an in-store return, bring the complete item, tags and correct tax invoice or packing slip. If you choose post, confirm the correct label, remove previous courier labels from the outer parcel, keep a tracking reference and note the posted date. A bulky item may require a separate support arrangement; do not attempt to send large electrical goods or furniture as if it were a standard satchel return.

Faulty goods and Australian consumer guarantees

A product that fails consumer guarantees is not restricted to Myer’s voluntary 30-day change-of-mind window simply because the buyer first discovers the fault later. Myer explicitly says its change-of-mind conditions do not replace Australian Consumer Law rights. The ACCC outlines possible remedies according to the nature and seriousness of the problem, including repair, replacement or refund where applicable.

When reporting a fault, give Myer the product description and purchase evidence, and explain whether it arrived damaged, developed a problem with normal use or was materially different from the product ordered. Keep a photo or video if it clearly demonstrates the issue. For a large or hard-to-transport item, contact support before arranging transport. Do not treat a normal change of taste, a poor size choice or expected wear as proof of a defective product.

Four practical Myer return situations

A coat ordered online is the wrong size. You have the tax invoice, tags and an unworn coat. Myer’s online route is an eligible refund rather than a direct size exchange. Check the policy period, return it through an approved route and make a separate purchase for the new size if you wish.

You have a gift receipt but no original payment card. An eligible change-of-mind gift return can be processed using Myer’s gift-receipt arrangement, which issues a Myer Returns Card at the original purchase value. Do not expect the recipient to receive a cash refund to an unrelated account.

A clearance lamp does not match its advertised description. Report the mismatch and show the listing or other evidence. Clearance is excluded from voluntary change-of-mind returns, but that does not automatically settle a qualifying claim about a product not matching its description.

You have only the online order confirmation. Search for the proper online tax invoice or packing slip first. Myer specifically says an order-confirmation email does not meet its change-of-mind online tax-invoice requirement. A wasted trip can often be avoided by retrieving the right document before leaving home.

Where to contact Myer about an unusual return

Use Myer’s official contact page for its concierge and Customer Experience Centre. Myer lists 13MYER (13 69 37) for telephone support, with operating hours published on the same page. Bring together your order or tax-invoice number, product description, return reason, any photographs and the tracking number if the item has already been posted. When the item is Big & Bulky, ask about the correct collection or assessment route before booking your own transport.

This is an independent account of the retailer’s published Australian returns options, not Myer customer service. Check the linked official conditions for product-specific rules and any changes to returns methods or seasonal promotions.

Can I exchange a Myer order bought online?

Myer says exchanges are available for eligible in-store purchases, while online orders are refunded instead. If you need a different size, the replacement will generally be a separate purchase.

Can I return a clearance item to Myer?

Clearance or reduced-to-clear items are excluded from Myer’s voluntary change-of-mind returns. A genuine fault or failure to match the description is assessed separately under applicable consumer guarantees.

Is an online order-confirmation email enough for a return?

Myer’s change-of-mind policy specifically identifies the online tax invoice or packing slip and says the order-confirmation email is not accepted as the online tax invoice. Retrieve the appropriate purchase document first.
